ReNew Communities, NFP
ReNew seeks to cultivate a “tipping point” of North Chicago residents involved and engaged in the positive development of its community.
We think a growing number of engaged residents is the key ingredient. A good job and a place to call home & raise a family are foundational ingredients.
Our jobs teams are cultivating jobs and pathways into good careers by collaborating with the city, chamber, school, local businesses and non-profits.
Our housing teams are seeking to increase home ownership by 15%. This is done primarily by moving families now renting in North Chicago into home ownership. Thriving communities generally have a 66% rate or greater of home ownership. North Chicago is around 30% home ownership. As home ownership increases so does safety, improved academics, friendships among neighbors, access to healthy foods, and stable families. ReNew believes 300 new home owners, or about a 15% increase in home ownership, represents a “tipping point” in which momentum “crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads” organically and rapidly (Malcolm Gladwell).
